Aeriosa is thrilled to announce the first Vancouver International Vertical Dance Summit, June 10th-15th, 2019.
(VIVDS) is a 6-day professional development conference open to dancers, circus artists, other performers, riggers and technicians. There is a concurrent public symposium of free performance demos, engaging roundtables, artist talks, and dance films.
The VIVDS is an opportunity for vertical dance specialists to expand their aerial technique, vocabulary, share knowledge and develop networks with artists across the seas.
Other professional performers are invited to participate in a progressive class program introducing foundational skills in vertical dance safety and movement technique as well as exploring the art of dancing in suspension through masterclasses and creative labs.
Workshops will be taught by Aeriosa artists and the 6 international Vertical Dance Forum choreographers from Italy, France, Ireland, Wales, England and Croatia. Classes will be held in various Vancouver locations including a public atrium, a studio theatre, a short outdoor wall, in the urban forest and on a tall office tower.
The event will culminate in a public showcase on June 15th, featuring the week's exploration in a cascade down the Tall Tower.
Who Can Participate? Professional dancers, circus artists and vertical dance specialists are invited to attend introductory, intermediate and advanced level workshops. Applicants to the advanced program must have prior vertical dance training and recent practice. Prior vertical dance experience is not required for participants attending intro/intermediate combined classes. If you are a professional performer with special access support requirements, please get in touch directly, so we can work together on making the VIVDS accessible to you.
